Some people try to confuse
Christians. They say the Bible has inconsistencies in it. Then, they call them
lies and say that if the Bible is full of lies, that disproves Jesus Is the Son
of God, but is that really true?
I will do research and
analyze it to see if any inconsistencies in the Bible about Jesus Being the
Shepherd disproves That Jesus Is the Son of God. After reading the Bible from
cover to cover 16+ times and doing all this Biblical research, I have yet to
find anything that even comes close to disproving this!
I used the online site: Bible Gateway at biblegateway.com and the New King James
Version of the Bible, also known as (NKJV), to research the passages that have
‘Shepherd’ in them in order to distinguish whether they are related to our
topic of research or not.
I include portions before
and after the pertinent Bible verses, so we have a better idea of the full
meaning of the verse or passage. Some people take Bible verses out of context
and use them in a way to persuade people to believe their point, regardless if
that was the actual meaning of the verse or passage. That’s why I start with the
Bible verses within the Biblical context and then, I will pull out the most
relevant Bible verses to further analyze.
Also, at times the word he
and him are both within the same Bible verse or passage. I will put within
brackets, who is speaking and who is being spoken to, if it doesn’t appear to
be clear from the text.
Genesis 49:22-25 says: “Joseph is a fruitful bough,A fruitful bough by
a well; His branches run over the wall. 23 The archers have bitterly
grieved him, Shot at him and hated him. 24 But his bow remained in
strength, And the arms of his hands were made strong the hands of the Mighty
God of Jacob (From there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel),
25 By the God of your father who will help you, And by the Almighty
who will bless you With blessings of heaven above, Blessings of
the deep that lies beneath, Blessings of the breasts and of the womb.
Numbers 27:16-17 says: 16 “Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set
a man over the congregation, 17 who may go out before them and go in before them, who
may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not
be like sheep which have no shepherd.”
2 Samuel 5:1-3 says:
Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and spoke, saying,
“Indeed we are your bone and your flesh. 2 Also, in time past, when Saul was king over us, you
were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the
Lord said to you, ‘You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over
Israel.’ ” 3 Therefore all the
elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant
with them at Hebron before the Lord. And they anointed David
king over Israel.
2 Samuel 7:6-9 says: 6 For I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I
brought the children of Israel up from Egypt, even to this day, but have moved
about in a tent and in a tabernacle. 7 Wherever I have moved about with all the children of
Israel, have I ever spoken a word to anyone from the tribes of Israel, whom I
commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a
house of cedar?’ ” ’ 8 Now therefore, thus shall you say to My
servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “I took you from the sheepfold,
from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. 9 And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and
have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name,
like the name of the great men who are on the earth.
1 Chronicles 11:1-3
says: 1 Then all Israel came together to David at Hebron,
saying, “Indeed we are your bone and your flesh. 2 Also, in time past, even when Saul was king, you were
the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the
Lord your God said to you, ‘You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler
over My people Israel.’ ” 3 Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at
Hebron, and David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord. And
they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by
Samuel.
Psalm 23:1-3
David says: The Lord is my shepherd;I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He
leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of
righteousness For His name’s sake.
Psalm 28:8-9 David
says: The Lord is their strength, And He is the
saving refuge of His anointed. 9 Save Your people, And bless Your inheritance; Shepherd
them also, And bear them up forever.
Psalm 78:70-72 says: He
[God] also chose David His servant, And took him from the sheepfolds; 71 From
following the ewes that had young He brought him, To shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel His
inheritance. 72 So he
shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, And guided them by
the skillfulness of his hands.
Psalm 80:1 says: [He is
speaking about God] Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph
like a flock; You who dwell between the cherubim, shine forth!
Ecclesiastes 12:11-14
says: 11 The words of the wise
are like goads, and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by
one Shepherd.[He is referring to God.] 12 And further, my son, be admonished by these. Of making
many books there is no end, and much study is wearisome to the
flesh. 13 Let us hear the
conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s
all. 14 For
God will bring every work into judgment,Including every secret thing, Whether
good or evil.
Isaiah 40:10-12 says:
Behold, the Lord God shall come with a strong hand, And His arm shall rule
for Him; Behold, His reward is with Him,
And
His work before Him. 11 He will feed His flock like a shepherd;
He
will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom,
And
gently lead those who are with young.
Isaiah 63:10-12 says:
But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit;
So He turned Himself against them as an enemy, And
He fought against them. 11 Then he remembered the days of old, Moses and his
people, saying: “Where is He who brought them up out of the sea
With the shepherd of His flock? Where is He who put His Holy Spirit
within them, 12 Who
led them by the right hand of Moses, With His glorious arm, Dividing the water
before them To make for Himself an everlasting name,
Jeremiah 23:1-3 says: “Woe
to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!” says the
Lord. 2 Therefore thus says
the Lord God of Israel against the shepherds who feed My people: “You have
scattered My flock, driven them away, and not attended to them. Behold, I will
attend to you for the evil of your doings,” says the Lord. 3 “But I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all
countries where I have driven them, and bring them back to their folds; and
they shall be fruitful and increase.
Jeremiah 23:4-6 says: 4 I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them;
and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, nor shall they be lacking,” says
the Lord. 5 “Behold,
the days are coming,” says the Lord, “That I will raise to David a
Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment
and righteousness in the earth. 6 In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell
safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR
RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Jeremiah 31:10-11 says:“Hear the word of the Lord, O nations, And declare
it in the isles afar off, and say, ‘He who scattered Israel
will gather him, And keep him as a shepherd does his flock.’ 11 For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, And ransomed him from
the hand of one stronger than he.
Jeremiah 50:6-7 says: “My
people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds have led them astray; They have turned them
away on the mountains. They have gone from mountain to hill; They have
forgotten their resting place. 7 All who found them have devoured them; And their
adversaries said, ‘We have not offended, Because they
have sinned against the Lord, the habitation of justice, The Lord, the hope of
their fathers.’
Ezekiel 34:1-4 says: And the
word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2 “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel,
prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God to the shepherds: “Woe to the
shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the
flocks? 3 You eat the fat and
clothe yourselves with the wool; you slaughter the fatlings, but you do
not feed the flock. 4 The weak you have not strengthened, nor have you
healed those who were sick, nor bound up the broken, nor brought back what was
driven away, nor sought what was lost; but with force and cruelty you have
ruled them.
Ezekiel 34:5-10 Then goes on to say: 5 So they were scattered because there was no
shepherd; and they became food for all the beasts of the field
when they were scattered. 6 My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and on
every high hill; yes, My flock was scattered over the whole face of the earth,
and no one was seeking or searching for them.” 7 ‘Therefore,
you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: 8 “As I live,” says the Lord God, “surely because
My flock became a prey, and My flock became food for every beast of the
field, because there was no shepherd, nor did My shepherds search for My
flock, but the shepherds fed themselves and did not feed My
flock”— 9 therefore,
O shepherds, hear the word of the Lord! 10 Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I am against
the shepherds, and I will require My flock at their hand; I will cause them to
cease feeding the sheep, and the shepherds shall feed themselves no more; for I
will deliver My flock from their mouths, that they may no longer be food for them.”
Ezekiel 34:11-16 goes on to say: 11 ‘For thus says the Lord God: “Indeed I Myself will
search for My sheep and seek them out. 12 As a shepherd seeks out his flock on the day he is
among his scattered sheep, so will I seek out My sheep and deliver them from
all the places where they were scattered on a cloudy and dark day. 13 And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather
them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land; I will
feed them on the mountains of Israel, in the valleys and in all the inhabited places
of the country. 14 I will
feed them in good pasture, and their fold shall be on the high mountains of
Israel. There they shall lie down in a good fold and feed in rich pasture on the
mountains of Israel. 15 I will feed My flock, and I will make them lie down,”
says the Lord God. 16 “I
will seek what was lost and bring back what was driven away, bind up the broken
and strengthen what was sick; but I will destroy the fat and the strong, and feed
them in judgment.”
Ezekiel 34:17-21 further says: 17 ‘And as for you, O My flock, thus
says the Lord God: “Behold, I shall judge between sheep and sheep, between rams
and goats. 18 Is it too little for you to have eaten up the good
pasture, that you must tread down with your feet the residue of your
pasture—and to have drunk of the clear waters, that you must foul the residue
with your feet? 19 And as
for My flock, they eat what you have trampled with your feet, and they
drink what you have fouled with your feet.” 20 ‘Therefore
thus says the Lord God to them: “Behold, I Myself will judge between the fat
and the lean sheep. 21 Because you have pushed with side and shoulder,
butted all the weak ones with your horns, and scattered them abroad,
Ezekiel 34:22-26 Also says: 22 therefore
I will save My flock, and they shall no longer be a prey; and I will judge
between sheep and sheep. 23 I will establish one shepherd over them, and he shall
feed them—My servant David. He shall feed them and be their shepherd. 24 And I,
the Lord, will be their God, and My servant David a prince among them; I, the
Lord, have spoken. 25 “I
will make a covenant of peace with them, and cause wild beasts to cease from the land;
and they will dwell safely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods. 26 I will make them and the places all around My hill a
blessing; and I will cause showers to come down in their season; there shall be
showers of blessing.
In addition, Ezekiel 34:27-31 says: 27 Then the trees of the field shall yield their fruit,
and the earth shall yield her increase. They shall be safe in their
land; and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I have broken the
bands of their yoke and delivered them from the hand of those who enslaved
them. 28 And
they shall no longer be a prey for the nations, nor shall beasts of the land
devour them; but they shall dwell safely, and no one shall make them
afraid. 29 I will raise up for
them a garden of renown, and they shall no longer be consumed with hunger in
the land, nor bear the shame of the Gentiles anymore. 30 Thus
they shall know that I, the Lord their God, am with them, and they, the
house of Israel, are My people,” says the Lord God.’ 31 “You
are My flock, the flock of My pasture; you are men, and I am
your God,” says the Lord God.
Ezekiel 37:23-25 says: 23 They shall not defile themselves anymore with their
idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions;
but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have
sinned, and will cleanse them. Then they shall be My people, and I will be their God.
24 “David
My servant shall be king over them, and they shall all have one
shepherd; they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do
them. 25 Then they shall dwell
in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, where your fathers dwelt;
and they shall dwell there, they, their children, and their children’s
children, forever; and My servant David shall be their prince forever.
Zechariah 13:6-7 says: 6 And one
will say to him, ‘What are these wounds between your arms?’ Then he will
answer, ‘Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.’ 7 “Awake,
O sword, against My Shepherd, Against the Man who is My Companion,” Says the
Lord of hosts. “Strike the Shepherd, And the sheep will be scattered; Then I
will turn My hand against the little ones.
Matthew 2:1-13 says: Now after Jesus was born in
Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the
East came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the
Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” 3 When
Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 And
when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together,
he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. 5 So
they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the
prophet: 6
‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least
among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd
My people Israel.’ ” 7 Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared. 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search
carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back
word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.” 9 When they heard the king, they departed; and behold,
the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and
stood over where the young Child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly
great joy. 11 And when they had come
into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down
and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented
gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 12 Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should
not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way. 13 Now when they had
departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying,
“Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there
until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”
Matthew 9:35-36 says: 35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages,
teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing
every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when He saw the multitudes, He
[Jesus] was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and
scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.
Matthew 25:31-44 says: 31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the
holy angels with Him [Jesus], then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All
the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from
another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He
will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand,
‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the
foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty
and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and
you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord,
when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You
drink? 38 When did we see You a
stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to
You?’ 40 And the King will
answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it
to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ 41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand,
‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil
and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and
you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and
you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’
44 “Then they also will
answer Him [Jesus], saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a
stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to
you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did
not do it to Me.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment,
but the righteous into eternal life.”
Matthew 26:31-35 says: 31 Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to
stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘I will strike the
Shepherd, And the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ 32 But
after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.” 33 Peter answered and said to Him, “Even if all are made
to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble.” 34 Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you that this
night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” 35 Peter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I
will not deny You!” And so said all the disciples.
Mark 6:33-34 says: 33 But the multitudes saw them departing, and many knew
Him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and
came together to Him. 34 And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and
was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a
shepherd. So He [Jesus] began to teach them many things.
Mark 14:27-31 says: 27 Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to
stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘I will strike the
Shepherd, And the sheep will be scattered.’ 28 “But
after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.” 29 Peter said to Him, “Even if all are made to stumble,
yet I will not be.” 30 Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you that
today, even this night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me
three times.” 31 But he spoke more
vehemently, “If I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” And they all said
likewise.
Luke 2:8-14 says: 8 Now there were in the same country shepherds
living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And
behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone
around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then
the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings
of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David
a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find
a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of
the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth
peace, goodwill toward men!”
Luke 2:15-20 goes on to say: 15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them
into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to
Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made
known to us.” 16 And
they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.
17 Now
when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told
them concerning this Child. 18 And all those who heard it marveled at those
things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things and pondered them
in her heart. 20 Then the
shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they
had heard and seen, as it was told them.
John 10:1-11 tells of Jesus saying: “Most
assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but
climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he
who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him
the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep
by name and leads them out. 4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before
them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 Yet
they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do
not know the voice of strangers.” 6 Jesus used this illustration, but they did not
understand the things which He spoke to them.
John
10:7-11 further says: 7 Then Jesus said to them
again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did
not hear them. 9 I am the door. If anyone
enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I
have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. 11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His
life for the sheep.
John 10:12-14 further tells of Jesus saying: 12 But a
hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the
wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and
scatters them. 13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does
not care about the sheep.
John 10:14-18 goes on to tell how Jesus said: 14 I am
the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the
Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay
down My life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold;
them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one
flock and one shepherd. 17 “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My
life that I may take it again. 18 No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself.
I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I
have received from My Father.”
John 10:22-32 says: 22 Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and
it was winter. 23 And Jesus walked in the
temple, in Solomon’s porch. 24 Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, “How
long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25 Jesus
answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My
Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. 26 But
you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. 27 My
sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I
give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone
snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given
them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My
Father’s hand. 30 I and My Father are one.” 31 Then the Jews took up
stones again to stone Him.
Acts 20:25-30 says: 25 “And indeed, now I [Paul] know that you all, among
whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, will see my face no more. 26 Therefore I testify to you this day that I am
innocent of the blood of all men. 27 For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole
counsel of God. 28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the
flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the
church of God which He purchased with His own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves
will come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking
perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.
Hebrews 13:20-21 Paul
says: 20 Now
may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great
Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 make
you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well
pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever
and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 2:20-25 says: 20 For what credit is it if, when you are beaten
for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you
take it patiently, this is commendable before God. 21 For to
this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an
example, that you should follow His steps: 22 “Who
committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth”; 23 who,
when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not
threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; 24 who
Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to
sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 25 For
you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and
Overseer of your souls.
1 Peter 5:1-4 says: The
elders who are among you I [Peter] exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a
witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will
be revealed: 2 Shepherd
the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion
but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 3 nor as
being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; 4 and
when the Chief Shepherd [Jesus Christ] appears, you will receive the
crown of glory that does not fade away.
Revelation 7:9-17 says: 9 After
these things I [the Apostle John] looked, and behold, a great multitude which
no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing
before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with
palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs
to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb [Jesus]!” 11 All
the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living
creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying:
“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, Thanksgiving and honor and power and
might, Be to our God forever and ever. Amen.”13 Then
one of the elders answered, saying to me, “Who are these arrayed in white
robes, and where did they come from?” 14 And I [John] said to him, “Sir, you know.” So he said
to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed
their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb [meaning when Jesus
gave His life for us on the cross and arose from the dead]. 15 Therefore
they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple.
And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. 16 They
shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them,
nor any heat; 17 for
the Lamb [Jesus] who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead
them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away
every tear from their eyes.”
[First I am going to
group the pertinent portions of the Shepherd Bible passages by topic for

Behold, the Lord God shall come with a strong hand, And His arm shall rule
for Him; Behold, His reward is with Him,
And
His work before Him. 11 He will feed His flock like a shepherd;
He
will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom,
And
gently lead those who are with young.
Jeremiah 31:10 says:“Hear
the word of the Lord, O nations, And declare it in the isles afar
off, and say, ‘He who scattered Israel will gather him, And keep
him as a shepherd does his flock.’
14 I will
feed them in good pasture, and their fold shall be on the high mountains of Israel.
[In reviewing all these Bible passages, they are consistent in saying:
God Is the Ultimate Shepherd of all His people here on earth! He is the saving
refuge, ruler with a strong hand, He cares for and feeds His sheep and gathers
them up. Additionally, He seeks out His lost sheep as in Ezekiel 34:16
which says: “I will seek what was lost and bring back what was
driven away, bind up the broken and strengthen what was sick; but I will
destroy the fat and the strong, and feed them in judgment.”]
Saying God Should Set a Shepherd Over His People
Numbers 27:16-17 says: 16 “Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set
a man over the congregation, 17 who may go out before them and go in before them, who
may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not
be like sheep which have no shepherd.”
[God acknowledged this
by appointing various people to shepherd His people over the years. The
following has a couple of many such people.]
Saying God Set Moses to Shepherd Over His People
Isaiah 63:11 says: 11 Then he remembered the days of old, Moses and
his people, saying: “Where is He who brought them up out of the sea
With the shepherd of His flock? Where is He who put His Holy Spirit within
them,
[God provided Moses to
shepherd the Israelites who had been oppressed in Egypt. He led them to the
Promised Land.]
Saying God Did Set David to Shepherd Over His People
2 Samuel 5:2 says: 2 Also, in time past, when Saul was king over us, you
were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the
Lord said to you, ‘You [David] shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler
over Israel.’ ”
2 Samuel 7:7-8
says: 7 Wherever I have moved
about with all the children of Israel, have I ever spoken a word
to anyone from the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people
Israel, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’ ” ’ 8 Now therefore, thus shall you say to My
servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “I took you from the sheepfold,
from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel.
1 Chronicles 11:1-2
says: 1 Then all Israel came together to David at Hebron,
saying, “Indeed we are your bone and your flesh. 2 Also, in time past, even when Saul was king, you were
the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the
Lord your God said to you, ‘You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler
over My people Israel.’
Psalm 78:70-72 says:
He [God] also chose David His servant, And took him from the sheepfolds;
71 From
following the ewes that had young He brought him, To shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel His
inheritance. 72 So he
shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, And guided them by
the skillfulness of his hands.
Ezekiel 37:23-24 says: 23 They shall not defile themselves anymore with their
idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions;
but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have
sinned, and will cleanse them. Then they shall be My people, and I will be their God.
24 “David
My servant shall be king over them, and they shall all have one
shepherd; they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do
them and cause wild beasts to cease from the land; and they
will dwell safely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods.
[God took David from being a shepherd in the fields to making him a king
to shepherd God’s people.]
Passages Referring to Bad Shepherds Who Lead God’s People Astray
Jeremiah 23:1-2 says: “Woe
to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!” says the
Lord. 2 Therefore thus says the Lord God of Israel
against the shepherds who feed My people: “You have scattered My flock, driven
them away, and not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for the evil
of your doings,” says the Lord.
Ezekiel 34:1-2 says: And the
word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2 “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel,
prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God to the shepherds: “Woe to
the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the
flocks?”
10 Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I am against
the shepherds, and I will require My flock at their hand; I will cause them
to cease feeding the sheep, and the shepherds shall feed themselves no more;
for I will deliver My flock from their mouths, that they may no
longer be food for them.”
21 Because you have pushed with side and shoulder,
butted all the weak ones with your horns, and scattered them abroad,
John 10:1-11 tells of Jesus saying: “Most
assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but
climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he
who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him
the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep
by name and leads them out.
John 10:12-14 further tells of Jesus saying: 12 But a
hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the
wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and
scatters them. 13 The hireling flees because
he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep.
[These passages are consistent whether it is God or Jesus saying how
upset He is by those who destroy and scatter, and lead astray the sheep of His
pasture. God said He would deliver His sheep from the mouth of wolves, He did
this through His promise of Jesus, our Savior.]
God Foretells Jesus Is the Shepherd Being Sent to Protect His People
In the Old Testament, Jeremiah shared what God let him know in 23:4-6 : 4 I will
set up shepherds over them who will feed them; and
they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, nor shall they be lacking,” says the
Lord. 5 “Behold,
the days are coming,” says the Lord, “That I will raise to David a
Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment
and righteousness in the earth. 6 In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell
safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR
RIGHTEOUSNESS.
[Jesus Christ, also known as The Lord Our Righteousness
and many other names used to glorify God’s Son, who was promised by God way back
in the Old Testament to Shepherd His people and to save them from their sinful
ways!]
Witnesses of Jesus’ Birth to Share with God’s People
Matthew 2:3-6 says: 3 When
Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 And
when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together,
he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. 5 So
they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the
prophet: 6
‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least
among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will
shepherd My people Israel.’ ”
Matthew 2:9-12 further says: 9 When they [the three Wise Men] heard the king, they
departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before
them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. 10 When
they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. 11 And
when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His
mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their
treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 12 Then,
being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they
departed for their own country another way.
11 For there is born to you
this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And
this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling
cloths, lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of
the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth
peace, goodwill toward men!”
[God knew it was difficult for people to believe just because someone
tells them something. So He, in His infinite wisdom, had many passages in the
Old Testament that foretold of the birth of Jesus Christ, His Son, many years
before it happened. Additionally, God had lots of eye witnesses to the birth of
His Son, Jesus. He had an angel notify lots of shepherds who were witnesses of
Jesus’ birth, as well as three wisemen, who were led to Jesus by a star, so
others would know that Jesus Christ is truly the Son of God!]
Saying Jesus Is the Shepherd of God’s People
Matthew 9:36 says: 36 But when He saw the multitudes, He
[Jesus] was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and
scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.
Matthew 25:31-33 says: 31 “When
the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him [Jesus],
then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All
the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from
another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He
will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
Mark 6:34 says: 34 And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and
was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having
a shepherd. So He [Jesus] began to teach them many things.
John 10:7-11 further says: 7 Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to
you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did
not hear them. 9 I am the door. If anyone
enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.
I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. 11 “I am
the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.
[Our Savior, Jesus, has compassion for the weary, and
comes to save His sheep from the thieves and robbers, who would lead His sheep
astray. Not only that, Jesus foretells that He is going to give His life for
His sheep, because He is the Good Shepherd! This is consistent with the
passages in the Old Testament telling of Jesus giving His life for His sheep/His
flock as evidenced below. Additionally, Matthew 9:36 and Mark 6:34 are very
similar, because different disciples saw the same things and shared them. Their
information is generally similar, but they share the information from their
particular perspective, writing what they saw or heard or their writing style
may be different, some giving more detail and some less.]
Jesus, Our Shepherd’s
Death Foretold in the Old Testament
Zechariah 13:6-7 says: 6 And one will say to him, ‘What are these
wounds between your arms?’ Then he will answer, ‘Those with which I was
wounded in the house of my friends.’ 7 “Awake,
O sword, against My Shepherd, Against the Man who is My Companion,” Says the Lord of
hosts. “Strike the Shepherd, And the sheep will be scattered; Then I
will turn My hand against the little ones. [Zechariah foretelling in the Old Testament about
Jesus’ wounds in His hands from His friends/being betrayed.]
Jesus Foretelling His Betrayal, Death, & Resurrection for His Sheep
Matthew 26:31-32 says: 31 Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to
stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘I will strike the
Shepherd, And the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ 32 But
after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.”
Mark 14:27-28 says: 27 Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to
stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘I will strike the
Shepherd, And the sheep will be scattered.’ 28 “But
after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.”
John 10:14-18 goes on to tell how Jesus said: 14 I am
the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the
Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay
down My life for the sheep. 16 And
other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they
will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd. 17 “Therefore
My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it
again. 18 No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I
have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I
have received from My Father.”
[What was foretold about Jesus giving His life so that His flock could
someday have salvation is consistent in the Old Testament and Jesus’
fulfillment of that in the New Testament!]
Jesus Is the Son of God
John 10:24-32 says: 24 Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, “How
long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25 Jesus
answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in
My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. 26 But
you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. 27 My
sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I
give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone
snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given
them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My
Father’s hand. 30 I and My Father are one.” 31 Then the Jews took up
stones again to stone Him.
[This passage and the one above it tell that God is Jesus’ Father and
that Jesus and His Father are One. I know it’s difficult to understand how
Jesus Christ, His Father and the Holy Spirit can all be God, but who else could
have created the world, predicted His Son would be born hundreds of years
before it happened and then fulfilled it to the letter, but God? At Jesus’
baptism in front of witnesses in Matthew 3:16-17 it says: When He had been
baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens
were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and
alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved
Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Again, at Jesus’ Transfiguration in Matthew 17:5 it
says: While he was still speaking, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them; and
suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved
Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” Not only are both God the Father’s comments
about Jesus Christ, His Son, consistent, but they were done in front of
eyewitnesses who shared this with others. God saying that Jesus Is His beloved
Son is also recorded in the other three Gospels which is additional proof that
these things really did happen. Again, some say it differently depending on
their perspective, some don’t retell the same things, but add to what has
already been said. Then, there are others who may have not been there who
interview eyewitnesses and other witnesses and share this, as well. Although
there may be some differences in what the disciples shared from their point of
view, these differences are minor and in no way disprove that Jesus Is the Son
of God, in fact, they are additional proof these things happened. You will find out if you
watch this brief video by J. Warner Wallace, a L.A. Cold-Case Detective, who
tells that witnesses rarely report things exactly the same way. Were the Gospels Written by Eye Witnesses?
Apostles Telling How Jesus, the Lamb of God, Gave His Life for Us
Acts 20:27-28 says: 27 For I [Paul] have not shunned to declare to you the whole
counsel of God. 28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the
flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the
church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
Hebrews 13:20-21 Paul
says: 20 Now
may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great
Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 make
you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well
pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever
and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 2:21-25 says: 21 For to
this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an
example, that you should follow His steps: 22 “Who
committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth”; 23 who,
when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He
suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges
righteously; 24 who
Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to
sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 25 For
you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and
Overseer of your souls.
[I was analyzing these
passages and realized that 1 Peter 2:21-25 says it all perfectly:21 For to
this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an
example, that you should follow His steps: 22 “Who
committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth”; 23 who,
when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He
suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges
righteously; 24 who
Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to
sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 25 For
you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and
Overseer of your souls. These passages were written many years after Jesus’
death, burial, and resurrection, but still chose to dedicate their lives to
sharing what Jesus Christ did on our behalf, so we could have Salvation. I’m
not sure that I would have given up my family, my livelihood, put up with the
harassment of others for all those years the way the disciples did. Most died
very torturous deaths, when it would have been very easy to say that they were
just making it up, but they weren’t. They were committed to Christ until their
final breath, which is an additional proof that Jesus Christ is truly the Son
of God, the Good Shepherd!]
The Lamb of God Who Gave His Life for Us Will Take Away Our Tears in
Heaven
[ God is all-powerful,
all-knowing and knew His flock would be scattered about by false shepherds and
lose their way. God knew only His Son, Jesus Christ, could provide the
atonement for all of us sinful sheep who have been led astray. Jesus’ life,
death, burial and resurrection, provided all those who believe in Him to have
the opportunity to join Him in Heaven some day! Don’t let people confuse you by
saying there are inconsistencies in the Bible, so it disproves that Jesus Is
the Son of God. You are intelligent people and don’t need to be sheep led
astray by the wolves. You can read the research and check it out for
yourselves. If you want additional proof go to How to Know That Jesus Is God’s Son at https://JesusIsSonOfGod.blogspot.com/]
